Yesterday, 22/02/2021 took part in a fabulous zoom six and a half hour Reflexology Lymph Drainage Refresher Course with the wonderful Sally Kay. Sally teaches all over the world and as a result and due to the power of the internet we mixed with people from UK, Washington, Pennsylvania, Texas, Canada, Greece and Northern Ireland.
It was great to refresh what we already knew and pick up a few added tips along the way!
Just completed my first week back in the clinic setting, lovely to be back but lots to get used to! Working in PPE has been a bit challenging in these temperatures but I guess it will get better as the weeks go on.
For those of you looking to return to some well earned reflexology treatments anybody that has been shielding, vulnerable but not shielding or anyone who has had COVID 19 and is now recovered need to get the OK form their GP/Consultant before resuming treatments. This keeps our insurance valid and keeps everybody safe. Look forward to seeing familiar faces and new ones too. Send me a message or give me a call on 07780454501 if you are ready for some self care! 👣👣
As a Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) approved therapist I am required to carry out a full risk assessment that adheres to COVID-19 guidelines produced by the government and my professional association prior to any treatment. For more information, visit fht.org.uk/coronavirus .
This COVID related questionnaire will need to be completed no more than 24 hours prior to your treatment. This can be done over the phone. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about this.
The following is an example of the typical questions I will ask and information I will need: Your name Date of treatment Type of treatment
Do you currently have COVID-19 or any symptoms of COVID-19?
Yes ☐ No ☐
Please defer your treatment if you: are waiting for a COVID-19 test result; have recently tested positive for COVID-19; or have a high temperature, new continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. If you currently have symptoms of COVID-19 but have not yet used the NHS 111 online coronavirus service, please do so. If you have any other new or unusual symptoms, please discuss these with your therapist before your appointment.
Have you had COVID-19? Yes ☐ No ☐
If you have had COVID-19, please seek consent from your GP or consultant before treatment.
Does anyone in your household or support bubble have COVID-19 or symptoms of COVID-19? Yes ☐ No ☐
Have you been in close contact with anyone else in the past 14 days who has symptoms of COVID-19, or been contacted by the NHS Test and Trace service and told to self-isolate? Yes ☐ No ☐
If yes to either question, please defer seeing your therapist until it is safe to do so.
Are you classed as an extremely vulnerable person (high risk)?
Yes ☐ No ☐
If you are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable and require shielding, you will have received a letter from the NHS explaining this. Defer treatments until the government indicates that it is safe for you to leave home or have visitors providing non-essential care.
Are you classed as a vulnerable person (moderate risk)? Yes ☐ No ☐
Unlike people at high risk, those who are classed as clinically vulnerable will not have received a letter from the NHS. If you are unsure if you are clinically vulnerable, please refer to the NHS website at www.nhs.uk. If you meet the definition of someone who is clinically vulnerable, please discuss this further with your therapist and seek consent from your GP, midwife or consultant before having a treatment.
Please check your temperature on the morning of your treatment. If it is higher than usual, or if you have any other symptoms, please contact me to defer your treatment.
Please ensure that you follow all new procedures prior to treatment.
Hi everyone, good news! Hope you are all well! It seems therapists in Wales are being allowed to practice from 27th July. It is my intention, unless things change, to start back the 2nd week in August in Crossroads Clinic and Align Therapies in the first instance. I am erring on the side of caution and will be postponing home visits until September after seeing how things have gone and if government guidelines haven’t changed, ie. restrictions haven’t been reimposed!
There will be some changes:
I will not be able to do any facial reflexology so only foot reflexology and reflexology lymph drainage will be allowed.
I will contact people by phone the day before the appointment to check on any changes in meds, conditions and ask the COVID questions. The questions will be posted under a different heading.
If you feel unwell on the day of your appointment or have been in contact with anyone with COVID please contact me to defer your appointment.
Also if I feel unwell or have been in contact with anyone with COVID I will be in touch to cancel your appointment.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are:
Fever, dry cough, and tiredness. Other symptoms that are less common and may affect some patients include aches and pains, nasal congestion, headache, conjunctivitis, sore throat, diarrhoea, loss of taste or smell or a rash on skin or discolouration of fingers or toes. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but only have very mild symptoms. If you have any of these symptoms call 111 for advice.
The reflexology environment as we know it will change too:
I will be wearing a visor, mask, and disposable pinny, gloves will be worn for the treatment, although FHT are looking in to this as wearing gloves for reflexology is not ideal, there will be thorough hand washing directly before and after the treatment.
There will be no blankets etc, wear layers if chilly, and all surfaces will be thoroughly cleaned in between clients. Not as cosy, more clinical!
If possible I would like clients to wear a mask, bring their own sanitiser, water bottle, and pen and I will ask you to sanitise your hands when you enter and leave the room. (If you don’t have a mask or sanitiser I will have some for you).
The aim is to touch as little as possible.
If you are shielding you will have wait until it is deemed the right time by the government to allow anyone into your home or be allowed outside with other people then get GP consent before a treatment.
If you are classed as vulnerable you must also get GP consent before a treatment.
I will only be taking card payments.
Could I ask that you arrive in time for your appointment, not early, to avoid sitting in the waiting area, also to come alone and bring as little with you as possible.
These are all very strange times and it seems nothing will be back to normal for a long time to come! These changes are following government guidelines and the advice of the Federation of Holistic Therapists, my governing body https://www.fht.org.uk/coronavirus-policy-template
I will still endeavour to make your treatment as lovely as possible but will always have our safety at the forefront of my mind, I am sure we will soon get used to the new norm!
I have completed the Health, Safety and Hygiene Returning to Work COVID 19 Course and am as prepared as I can be. I thank you so much for your patience and understanding and am looking forward to seeing you all soon!
If you have any questions do not hesitate to get in touch.
