WHAT CAN REFLEXOLOGY DO?

There is a corresponding reflex on the foot or face for every part of the body and Reflexology, whether used on its own or along with conventional medicine can help with the relief of many conditions.

Reflexology improves blood circulation and the efficient functioning of the nervous system, lymphatic system, kidneys, colon and skin.

The effects of Reflexology can be extremely relaxing and people regularly fall asleep during treatment. With this in mind Reflexology is very good at countering the effects of stress and tension and with the knowledge that a very large percentage of illnesses are stress related this tells us that Reflexology can be of benefit to a majority of people.

Reflexology is thought to be particularly effective in treating problems such as backache, migraine, menstrual problems, allergies and insomnia. Reflexologists do not claim to cure any major disorders but the relaxing effects of Reflexology are known to be beneficial for people with many conditions.

REFLEXOLOGY IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE AND FOR SOME CONDITIONS GP APPROVAL MUST BE SORT BEFORE TREATMENT CAN TAKE PLACE AS MEDICATION DOSAGES MAY NEED MONITORING ETC.

THERE ARE SOME CONDITIONS WHERE REFLEXOLOGY IS NOT RECOMMENDED. PLEASE ENQUIRE BEFORE BOOKING.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A TREATMENT?

Treatments are usually up to 45 minutes long but the first can be up to an hour, maybe longer, as it includes a consultation. This consists of a questionnaire detailing the client’s medical history, lifestyle, hobbies, diet etc. and is a good time to discuss any problems the client may have (if they wish to do so) to get a picture of the person as a whole. Here the Reflexologist decides which areas of the feet need to be concentrated on and discuss this with the client.

The main treatment begins with the client being asked to either lie or sit down (whichever is best for them) and put their feet up. The treatment then starts proper (often accompanied by relaxing music) with some massage techniques and breathing exercises to relax the client. Then using a soothing wax the Reflexologist begins to make small caterpillar-like movements with the thumb, over the entire foot concentrating on the areas that need the most work.

The feelings a client can experience when a blockage has been found varies from a rippling as though sand were under the skin to sharp stabbing pain, this pain can seem worse during the first treatment, this does not necessarily indicate a severe disorder and can sometimes be caused by tension in that person. Eventually, however, the client should feel the benefit of the treatments and find them relaxing experiences.

The treatment ends after both feet have been completed with massage techniques and perhaps a visualization breathing exercise to round it off.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER A TREATMENT?

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
  • Eat a light meal
  • Avoid other complementary therapies for 24 hours.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS

Reactions to Reflexology vary from person to person. Clients may experience:

  • A desire to urinate more frequently
  • Increased bowel activity
  • Increased perspiration
  • Runny nose
  • Change in sleep patterns
  • Increased emotions especially if you have been unable to express emotions i.e. grief as emotion is released.

It is important to remember that these are short-term reactions as the body attempts to improve its balance. They are nothing to worry about and improve as treatments go on.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED & WHAT WILL IT COST?

This depends on the person and the condition and varies in each case, some feel immediate relief while others need more treatments.

It is recommended that you should have a minimum of 3-5 weekly treatments progressing to fortnightly and eventually monthly.

Some clients enjoy reflexology as a way of treating themselves to an extremely relaxing experience once a month.

Cost: £35 per treatment / 4 Treatments for £120.
